What do you really mean by Self coaching ?
Self coaching for me is simply taking some time with myself to get clarity on what I want, what’s holding me back and how I can find solutions and plan to achieve what I want to do.
It doesn’t mean to bit yourself up and force yourself. It means listening to your resistance, understanding what’s going on and opening up to the real you. It means also being kind with yourself.
Every , I use my lunch time and create an appointment with myself in my outlook calendar to do a little session of self coaching. I look at the past week what was good and may be the things I wanted to do and didn’t do . I decide if it was really important and try to understand why I didn’t do it . Sometimes it is by fear, sometimes it is just laziness or sometimes it is just because it was not important and I have something else in mind more important that I’d like to do.
The key word for self coaching is Clarity. S
Step 1: Clarity
What do I want ? If possible take 10 min to really visualize it . How will it feel when you will have achieved that goal ? how will you celebrate ? What will you were ? Who will you tell ? . Make it as real as possible and really try to visualize it done .
Step 2: Solutions
How can I find solutions and put in place a system that will help me to get there. May be I need just to do 2 things this week . What would be these 2 most important things that I could do that would take me just 1 step closer this week ? Try not to overwhelm yourself with endless todo list . I recommend to only decide of 3 things to do. We are only talking about 1 week at a time. Relax.
Step 3: Accountability
How will I keep myself on track . Do I need to set a reminder , put some post-it on my mirror , write a journal, set some todo in my calendar ? Decide right now how you will keep yourself accountable because you may forget about your tasks in 2-3 days.
